Waking Life Festival
At the Waking Life festival, Otis Verhoeve and I created a unique merchandise experience that goes beyond traditional festival merchandise. We decided to uplift personal garments by screen printing them on the spot. Inspired by the ideas behind Waking Life, we designed six timeless designs and built a DIY silkscreen booth.
Our designs are drawn from the collective memory and the universal language of life. By rooting our work in history and blending various styles and tropes—both low and high brow—we intentionally avoid imposing personal tastes. Festival goers could bring their own garnments and choose a design to have printed on site, with complete freedom in placement and color choice. They could play around even combining colors to complex gradations.
The production process took place in the merchandise shop, where we collaborated with printmakers Liselotte Van Daele and Sam Gunst,
who printed the clothes during the festival.
This project created not only unique garments but also lasting memories, with each creation reflecting the unique energy of the festival. Our designs are
influenced by countercultural and folk art movements, and resonate deeply with a wide audience. They address fundamental, primal feelings and experiences that are universally understood and felt.
